Smoking costs more money every year. In 2007, the average price for a pack of cigarettes stood at $4.63 (American dollars, USA average). We will use this price to make our calculations.

Stopping today will save our ten-cigarettes-a-day example $64.82 per month, or $777.84 per year.

What if I smoke more?

Estimates of the average number of cigarettes smoked by the average smoker range from 15-40 per day. We will use 20 cigarettes per day (one pack) as our benchmark average smoker.

If you smoke one pack a day and stop smoking, you’ll save:

$129.64 per month (a very nice dinner or 2 new pairs of shoes)
$1555.68 per year (a week’s stay at a good European hotel)

Two-pack-a-day smokers save over $3000 per year!

Stop smoking and save money over the long term

Instead of spending the money you save when you stop smoking, you could save it. Please note that the following are hypothetical examples (but are easily achievable) and should not be construed as investment advice.

If you take the $1555 you save in a year and put it in a simple savings account, you’ll make about $30 extra dollars per year. Over the course of 10 years, your savings will grow to $1913!

If you smoke one pack of cigarettes per day and stop, and you save the money, you can save enough money to put a newborn child through college. Here are the numbers:

 1. You save $1555.68 per year
2. You invest $1555.68 saved per year in a certificate of deposit (assumes 3.5% interest)
3. You roll all savings into a new CD at the same rate
4. You save for 18 years

Net result: $42,337.32

All that money was saved by you – by your decision to stop smoking today.

Indirect savings when you stop smoking

In addition to the extra money you save that goes into your pocket, when you stop smoking you save on health and medical expenses as well.

In 2004, a Duke University study estimated that smoking’s real cost is about $40 per pack. This figure includes:

 1. Life and property insurance increases
2. Additional medical care for the smoker
3. Additional medical care for the smoker’s family
4. Lost earnings due to disability

Think about that for a minute: $40 per pack. Suddenly, a plan to stop smoking makes a lot more financial sense.

Tobacco contains nicotine, which is easily as addictive as heroin or crack cocaine. Most tobacco products also contain other chemical additives which have been shown to cause health problems as well. When you decide to stop smoking and cease loading nicotine into your system, your body will experience some very real withdrawal symptoms. If you have smoked for quite some time, both your body and mind are conditioned to expect the input of nicotine and the pleasurable routines with which it is associated.

Physical and Emotional Side Effects of Smoking Cessation

For those addicted to nicotine, the drug works by signaling the brain to increase the level of adrenaline in the bloodstream. The adrenaline then tells the body to go into a survival mode known as ‘fight or flight’. This dumps fatty sugars into the bloodstream and fools the brain into thinking you are not hungry.

Once nicotine is no longer coming into your system, you may also feel a lock of concentration. Plus you may feel irritable, shaky, angry, and you could possibly have trouble sleeping. Additionally, you may notice that your breath is nasty and you may experience nausea or constipation. All of these symptoms, both physical and emotional, are normal and you can deal with them. Stop smoking herbs relieve the mental and physical side effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Mental Challenges Associated With Quitting Nicotine

At some point in the process of giving up smoking, you may question why you ever decided to stop smoking at all! Don’t be alarmed, though. This is completely normal. Just don’t give in to the urge to smoke. Eat a carrot or some celery instead. Above all, try not to take your irritability, nervousness, depression or anger out on those you love. If you must explode, do so in a safe place – hit a pillow, not your spouse.

There Is Light At The End Of This Tunnel – And It Isn’t a Lit Cigarette!

As you walk the road to kicking the nicotine habit for good, remember to take good care of your body while you are going through the withdrawal process. You will find that, one day, you’ll wake up and not reach for a cigarette at all. Before you know it weeks and months will have passed and, at some point, you won’t even be able to remember the exact date you quit. When you’ve reached this stage, consider yourself an absolute victor. You’ve won!

Scores of stop smoking programs are available – from web-based programs to face-to-face programs. The cost of these programs can vary from free stop smoking programs to costing hundreds of dollars.

Many health plans and worksites provide free stop smoking programs and treatment for nicotine addiction and some health plans cover the cost of medications to help you stop smoking cigarettes. Check with your insurance carrier or employer for more information.

Many free stop smoking programs come in the form of courses from people who have experience on this subject. Some of these will also be from doctors while there are other courses taught by people who have overcome nicotine addiction on their own and want to communicate their story to others who are trying to stop cigarette smoking.

Free Stop Smoking Aids

The American Cancer Society offers a variety of free stop smoking aids online. They will send you an abundance of reading material regarding the harmful nature of smoking cigarettes, and also free stop smoking tips. The American Cancer Society’s free stop smoking aids can be extremely motivating, especially if you are already beginning to feel the harmful effects of smoking.

Free Help to Stop Smoking

You can also try investigating what the local health centers in your neighborhood offer. These programs are usually sponsored by non-profit organizations. These stop smoking programs have a similar approach to those that are used to battle alcohol and drug addiction.

The local church and other civic groups in your neighborhood may also have a variety of workshops or programs that could offer ways to stop smoking. Check out the bulletin boards in your church or civic center or ask a representative if they offer programs for those who are trying to stop smoking cigarettes.

You could also take things into your own hands and make a list of all the reasons why you should stop smoking cigarettes. You can make a list of reasons and along side of that a list of benefits. If possible, include your family or friends when you are making this list. They may be able to give you support and a different perspective to your addiction to nicotine.

While you are contemplating ways to quit smoking, remember that you are not alone and then realize why it’s so hard for you to quit smoking – there is a physiological basis and a psychological basis to your addiction.

While there is no wonder cure to stop smoking cigarettes, here are the top five tips to quit smoking:

Prepare Yourself to Quit

Be sure that you make a stop smoking plan customized to your personal needs. If you usually smoke while sitting in front of the TV, for example, then plan other activities to occupy yourself when you would usually be watching TV. Set a date and tell your family and friends that you plan to quit. Understand the challenges that you will face on that date and beyond, get rid of all tobacco related items from you home, car, and work place prior to your quit date.

Research Methods for Quitting

Investigate methods such as nicotine replacement therapy (nicotine patches, lozenges, inhalers, nasal spray and gum) and non-nicotine medications that come in pill form to see which smoking cessation methods may be right for you. Look into alternate treatments for nicotine addiction such as natural treatments that utilize stop smoking herbs.

Learn to Manage your Cravings

Some methods to keep your mind off of cigarettes include getting active by exercising, distracting yourself with crossword puzzles or other things that make you focus on something else, chewing gum, nibbling on carrots, learning to relax find a calm space where your are comfortable, and avoiding situations that trigger the cigarette craving (such as a bar).

Get Support for Quitting Smoking

Find a local support group. You can find a Nicotine Anonymous group near you, call a telephone help line like 1-800-QUIT-NOW, take a smoke-free workshop or call the American Cancer Society near you for a list of resources.

Prepare to Relapse

If you do relapse, understand that it is normal in the process of trying to kick your nicotine addiction. You should examine what happened right before you started smoking again, identify the triggers or trouble spots that confronted you, and make a new stop-smoking plan that removes them.

These top five tips to quit smoking are not the only solutions. You may find other alternatives that will help you to stop smoking for good. Keep trying. Check out our Editor’s Choice stop smoking product.

The addictive qualities of nicotine make it a giant, and you need all the help you can get to slay it.

For years, companies have been pushing products to help you stop smoking. Unfortunately, most of these products don’t work, and many of them are crammed with harmful ingredients that only worsen your health.

That’s why NicoDyne is such a pleasant surprise. Admittedly, when we first decided to review this stop smoking product, we figured it’d be just another in a long line of pretender products. But we were wrong. NicoDyne not only helps you stop smoking once and for all, but it contains an all-natural blend that helps you quit safely and easily.

Compare Chantix with NicoDyne

Since NicoDyne is an herbal formula, no prescription is required for treatment. However, don’t mistake this as a lack of efficacy. One of the biggest misconceptions is to assume that prescription products are more effective than their non-prescription counterparts. In fact, many times the opposite is true.

For example, Chantix is one of the most popular prescription stop smoking drugs. However, this prescription drug isn’t natural, and it’s loaded with potential side effects. Common Chantix side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, flatulence, blood disorders, immune problems, cardiac disorders, and gastrointestinal malfunctions. These are just a few of the side effects.

NicoDyne , on the other hand, is an all-natural product that you can feel safe taking. It addresses the problem of smoking addiction from a natural standpoint, helping your body get off nicotine safely.

NicoDyne Ingredients

Judging by its ingredients, NicoDyne definitely has a leg up on most of the competition. It actually features many of the same ingredients we list in our recommended stop smoking herbs. The NicoDyne ingredients include lobelia herb, eleuthero root, passion flower, sarsaparilla, skullcap herb, peppermint leaf, safflower, and ginger root. It’s an all herbal formula that doesn’t require a prescription.

Does NicoDyne Work?

Of course, when it comes down to it, you really don’t care about anything except this: does NicoDyne work? Based on our tests, the answer is yes. NicoDyne does help you kick the habit. It helps you to stop smoking by getting your body off nicotine safely and naturally. Compare this to prescription drugs that are crammed with unnatural ingredients and carry damaging side effects, and you can understand the benefits of an herbal formula.

Free NicoDyne

When you see the words “Free NicoDyne,” your eyes might light up. But in this case, the word “free” means “free two week trial.” The makers of Nicodyne are so confident that their product will help you stop smoking that they offer it free for two weeks. If it helps you, do nothing, and the credit card you use to pay for shipping and handling will be charged.

As with all Internet free trials, when you accept a free trial, you are enrolling in an autoship program in which you receive the product at a reduced rate every month. In the case of Nicodyne, you get the product for 20% less than regular retail. Usually people are able to stop smoking forever after three months. You can call anytime to cancel or change your membership.

We called Nicodyne to make sure we were able to reach a real person. We also looked for them on ripoffreport.com and found no trace of unsatisfied customers. Always check out companies offering a free trial on consumer sites such as ripoffreport.com.

If you’re looking for a product that will finally put your nicotine habit to bed, we recommend you try Nicodyne today!

Truthfully, in addition to nicotine addiction, stubbornness may be the primary reason why some people can’t stop smoking. For some smokers, a hacking cough or incessant cold may not be sufficient reasons to stop smoking. Most people don’t realize how fatal smoking can be until it hits close to home or actually kills someone they know. Even when this is the case, denial can still set in. However, for most people family serves as one of their most compelling reasons to stop smoking.

Pregnancy or Existing Children

In the case of some men, driving reasons to stop smoking can include a pregnant wife as well as existing young children. It is a well-known fact that second-hand smoking is worse than actually smoking the cigarette yourself. So, when the husband accompanies the wife during her pre-natal visits, the doctor often advises the man to try to stop smoking for the sake of their family’s future.

In the case of women who have smoked most of their lives, children also tend to be at the top of the list among their most convincing reasons to stop smoking as well. Since mothers can have the greatest affect on their children if they continue to smoke, most new mothers embark on the process of stopping their nasty habit without thinking twice about it. Visit our stop smoking tips article.

Impending or Current Illness

For the majority of single people, impending or current illness ranks high on list of reasons to stop smoking. But most of the time this can be a cause to relapse once they get a clean bill of health. However, for some, a higher awareness of overall health or wellness is reason enough to kick the nicotine habit. Plus, kissing someone who tastes like an ash tray can be a turn off for singles on the dating scene. So, for single people, pure vanity may serve as another one of the compelling reasons to stop smoking.

Reasons to Stop Smoking: Final Word

Whatever reason one should choose to stop smoking, kicking the nicotine habit is a rewarding decision that can help former smokers enjoy their lives for many years to come. Plus, getting rid of that awful smell and terrible aftertaste isn’t that bad either.

Nicotine addiction should not be taken lightly. Nicotine is 1,000 times more potent than alcohol and five to ten times more potent than cocaine or morphine. A one-pack-per-day smoker takes up to 200 hits daily for years. You may want to quit smoking cigarettes but it becomes much easier to continue because of the addictive quality that nicotine possesses.

Nicotine addiction is so powerful because of the way it makes you feel, both emotionally and physically, and because it becomes a part of your daily routine. When you become addicted to smoking, you keep smoking cigarettes in order to achieve the physiological (physical) and psychological (mental) satisfaction that smoking provides.

Unfortunately, the satisfaction that you receive from smoking is very brief and you begin to crave another cigarette in a short period of time. An additional problem that arises is that the more you smoke cigarettes the more exposure you have to nicotine, which results in a growing tolerance for the drug. Consequently, you have to smoke more cigarettes in order to reach that physiological and psychological “high” that your body is craving.

Nicotine Addiction Cycle

Nicotine interferes with the reward pathways in your brain. Every time you smoke, nicotine stimulates your neurons to release dopamine, the neurotransmitter that makes you feel good, while also releasing glutamate, the neurotransmitter connected to your memory. So not only does nicotine make you feel good, it creates a cycle in your brain linking that good feeling back to a cigarette.

Plus, nicotine is metabolized rapidly, so it vanishes from your body completely in just a few hours, which makes you need to smoke more often to continue to feel the same pleasurable effects. That’s what makes nicotine addiction so dangerous and sinister; your brain and your body are telling you that you need to have nicotine.

Nicotine Addiction Withdrawal

After you quit smoking and try to beat the nicotine addiction, you may experience withdrawal symptoms, including depression, irritability, difficulty concentrating or sleeping, headache, and tiredness. Stop smoking herbs help with the nicotine addition withdrawal and “smoker’s flu.”

In the end, recognizing the nature of your nicotine addiction, the physical and psychological cravings, can help you to identify and get ready for the struggle you might have to contend with while you are in the process of quitting. Yes, nicotine withdrawal symptoms can be painful, but it is better than prolonging the risk to your health and your future.
